* Artistic Therapies: Theory

"….comprehension of the world expressed in imagery and pictures,
leads man towards his innermost being. As long as he strives for
self-knowledge with abstract ideas and concepts, nothing is
achieved. But when he penetrates into his innermost being with
pictures that give concrete definition to experiences….then he
achieves his aim….man must meditate in pictures, in images."

| R. Steiner, Temple Architecture, Ap. 27th, 1924

Introduction and overview of Artistic Therapies paradigms, with particular reference to Rudolf Steiner (Goethean) approach with Artistic Therapies for facilitating oneself and/or others, in particular:

- Colour Work
- Clay Modelling
- Indications & Contraindications for application

• The ‘educational’
That is, ‘preventative’ (or salutogenic) artistic activity that is offered to those not requiring specific therapeutic intervention: those who want to learn how artistic practice may be able to help them to further their well-being at all levels.

• The ‘medicinal’
That is, artistic activity that is used therapeutically with people identifying as having presenting issues that require specific intervention. This may take the form of ‘prescribed’ artistic activities for specific imbalances etc, or it may assist the person’s expression of what was blocked, unknown, feared etc, or to facilitate a client’s range of communication within herself and/or with a counsellor.

The course will include introductory experiential activities involving a range of artistic mediums.
